T-Mobile UK, trading as T-Mobile, was formerly known as One 2 One, and is the UK network of T-Mobile International - one of Deutsche Telekom AG's four strategic divisions.

Deutsche Telekom's subsidiaries and affiliated companies currently serve almost 82 million mobile customers worldwide.

T-Mobile International is the first transatlantic mobile communications provider utilising the digital GSM wireless technology standard. This underpins the provision of its unique transatlantic, single-tariff roaming package, "WorldClass."

T-Mobile has GPRS roaming agreements with 21 networks in 19 countries, including the USA.

T-Mobile launched the first true mobile-to-mobile multimedia messaging service (MMS) in the UK. The Picture Messaging service launched on 1 June 2002.

Why T-Mobile Chose an SMS Promotion

T-Mobile (UK) selected InfoSpace Mobile's SMS platform for the delivery of personalised football news and results.

InfoSpace Mobile provides its services over any standard and to any device, and is therefore ideally placed to partner with mobile network operators in the delivery of mobile Internet services. The company can bring services to market more quickly and more cost-effectively than would otherwise be possible.
InfoSpace Mobile Solution
InfoSpace Mobile's SMS solution offers T-Mobile's UK customer base the ability to sign up to receive alerts for football news, goal flashes, bookings, missed penalties and results, wherever they are, and for whichever English or Scottish football league team they support.

To use the service, customers simply need to log onto T-Mobile UK's web site at www.t-mobile.co.uk/football and then provision the service according to their interests and favourite team. They can also provision the service direct from their mobile phones via SMS. A monthly subscription is available to users, or they may choose to pay for one-off pieces of football news or results on an ad-hoc basis.

Regardless of the team that the customer chooses to receive news upon, they are guaranteed one new story per day, plus all goals, missed penalties, red cards, half-time/full-time results and tables.

SMS on the High Street
T-Mobile UK sold monthly subscriptions to its InfoSpace Mobile-powered SMS Football Information Service at high street stores over the Christmas period. This was the first time that T-Mobile sold its data services through a physical product. Each pack cost £4, giving the subscriber a 30-day renewable subscription to T-Mobile's Football Results service.

T-Mobile subscribers who purchased a pack were given a PIN number. To activate the service, they send a text message to T-Mobile's 4040 short code number with the word "scoreson" followed by the name of their club and their 12 digit PIN. They'll then be sent a text message showing that they are registered.

T-Mobile subscribers can register for the service directly over their mobile phone. InfoSpace Mobile modified its football text alert application to recognize these PIN numbers and deliver the service. InfoSpace Mobile's technology will be used to check that the code is genuine, and the customer is authorized to receive the service.
