Emma.fm opens a mobile music service in Finland
Technology developed in co-operation between Elisa Communications and
LockStream Corporation

Emma.fm - January 18, 2002
Emma.fm (www.emma.fm), Elisa Communications´ on-line store for digital music today opened a mobile service to pilot the commercial distribution of music to mobile devices. The Emma.fm mobile service delivers digital music tracks to the Nokia 5510 phone and Nokia Music Player HDR-1 in a protected file format. The service allows customers in Finland to pay for purchased tracks via their mobile phone bill, Internet banking accounts or credit cards.

The music bought from Emma.fm is downloaded to the user´s computer and then transferred to the device. When users download a track for the first time, they receive the Emma Player, which allows them to manage their tracks and transfer them via their PC to their Nokia 5510 or Nokia Music Player. The service is now available to customers in Finland.

Mr. Vesa Lepistö, Development Manager of Elisa Communications, Research and Business Development, believes that mobility will be one of the driving forces in the digital music delivery business. "This new mobile extension is a remarkable new service in our store. It perfectly matches customers´ needs to listen to music whenever and wherever they want."

The Emma.fm mobile service technology was developed in co-operation between Elisa Communications and LockStream Corporation. LockStream has developed the DRM (Digital Rights Management) solution for the pilot. "Working with LockStream has been a valuable experience for us. Elisa is a technology systems integrator and our platform needs high-quality and scalable DRM solutions. LockStreams technical competence and time-to-market productivity has impressed us," said Mr. Lepistö.

Mr. Peter Baer, Executive Vice President of LockStream Corporation quotes "I am delighted that a pioneer in the telecommunication industry like Elisa has endorsed LockStream´s technology. This new service is a real breakthrough in terms of allowing consumers to access secure media not just on desktops, but also on mobile devices like the Nokia 5510 and Nokia Music Player."

"For Elisa and our cooperation partners Emma.fm in Finland is a laboratory for new services and gives us feedback on how to develop technology and services to meet real customer needs and get people to accept and use these new digital delivery channels," said Ms. Laura Hännikäinen, Marketing Designer, Elisa Communications, Research and Business Development.

The Emma.fm service was designed in cooperation with ÄKT ry (The Finnish National Group of IFPI), international record companies such as BMG, EMI and edel, and the largest domestic record companies Poko Records, Spinefarm, Johanna Kustannus, Love Kustannus and Siboney. Emma.fm was launched in January 2001.
